A Movie Reflection

A. Choose one of the following movies to watch and write a three page response and/or reflection: I            1. Lorenzo’s Oil            2. My Left Foot            3. I Am Sam B. Do not summarize the movie C. Use the following questions as a guide:            1. Lorenzo’s Oil: Is the movie about a family’s response to discovering their son’s illness. Discuss the grieving cycle and the determination of his parents to discover a cure at all costs, and how the mother, aunt, and father respond differently.            2. My Left Foot: Another movie about the family system of a child with a disability. Write about the different behaviors and reactions to Christy, and how these change (especially his mother and father). How do they change when they discover he can write and think? Talk about the teachers involved and ways things were handled or could have been handled differently from that perspective.           3. I Am Sam: What are the greatest challenges facing Sam? Describe Sam’s “family”. How does this family support Sam? How does the social service system help and hinder? What are the goals of social service, and do you think they meet these goals?
