Effects of Coronavirus

The purpose of this essay is to practice expository writing (think: objective reporting of the facts) and research. Your task is to compose a six (6) page, MLA formatted paper on a current event. That is, something happening now (or within the last 6 months but which continues to have an impact) locally (for Santa Cruz, the closure of the Ross Camp would be an example), nationally (the continuing separation of migrant families at the border, the Democratic Primary, etc.), and/or globally (Coronavirus, climate change, the wars in Yemen or Afghanistan, etc). Use the notes you’ve taken when we watch the headlines segment of Democracy Now! as a starting place.  Think of this paper as an investigative report for a news organization. You will begin by introducing your current event, for instance, family separation at the border, and then explaining what it is, who it happens to, why, etc. It may be useful here to remember the Five W’s (who? what? when? where? why?). This essay will require research. We will be visiting the library and a librarian will help you get started. For full credit, you must use and cite at least four (4)outside sources. One needs to be a news report describing the current event, and at least two should be scholarly articles that provide more context for your event (background, impacts, etc.).
