Essay 3: Final Paper (1800-2000 words) This is your final research paper on a topic of your choice. In this paper, you will demonstrate your critical insight and research skills. For topics, you can read the opinion section of a newspaper or watch a debate on a national or international issue on youtube in an area of your interest and write a full-fledged article for a newspaper’s opinion column. Your topics can come from politics, social/cultural practices, entertainment, education, or economy. You can argue for or against or find a middle ground. Write about something that you are passionate about or burning to tell the world. You will demonstrate coherence, depth, fullness and support in your paragraphs. Your thesis must be clearly spelled out for your reader and your arguments should follow a logical structure, with statements supported by  examples. Do not digress or deviate from your plan and your topic; cut out redundancies, which are expressions that do not contribute to the purpose of your writing. Bring evidence from the real world to prove your point.Opening: Make a clear thesis statement that comes from the original text in the first paragraph. Tell your reader which text and author you are writing about and what is your main angle. Do not stray away from the main idea I want to see how you can focus and come to the main point. Paragraphs: Tie your paragraphs to the main idea or the thesis statement spelt out in the opening paragraph. Start each paragraph with a topic sentence. Develop your paragraphs coherently, making sure each paragraph has a clear thesis or an argument to prove that ties to the central idea and the plan in your introductory paragraph. Conclusion: Your conclusion should wrap up the thesis statement to consolidate your argument. Use your analytical, reflective and critical skills. Your essay will be evaluated on the basis of how you explore the issues in the text, consistency, logical structure of arguments, evidence for your claim, grammar, punctuation, and how well you follow the prompt.
