In an article in the magazine The Atlantic, writer Joe Fassler asks, “How can a book’s portrayal of women be praised and criticized at the same time?” Junot Diaz himself has said that male writers, in general, “suck” at writing three-dimensional, fully developed female characters. Using Diaz’s short stories “Alma” and “The Pura Principle,” Write a research paper exploring the question, “Is Junot Diaz fair or unfair in his portrayal of women in his stories?” Remember, you must: Form your own opinion on his portrayal of women.
