The Marrow Thieves
This is also your chance to show me what you’ve learned about issues in our society from reading your book. I chose these books because the main characters are around your age and they’re navigating life while dealing with a big societal issue.
By the end of the novel, all of them have reached some kind of resolution, whether it was forgiving someone who had done them wrong (The 57 Bus), doing everything possible to honor and fight for justice for a friend (The Hate U Give), learning to accept that there is good in some people (A Very Large Expanse of Sea), working together with others to fight against injustice (The Marrow Thieves), or never giving up on the hopes of being reunited with a loved one (American Street).
Despite the odds, they all continued to work toward their personal cause. For this project, you will create a promotional item for the cause your character fought for. It can be a presentation, a poster, a video, a piece of artwork–whatever you think is fitting and whatever you feel comfortable creating. There are specific items I’ll be looking for in your promotional item: At least one passage from the book showing the issue the character is dealing with, with page numbers (please censor any non-school appropriate language)
At least one passage from the book showing how the character fought to seek change, with page numbers (please censor any non-school appropriate language) A passage from an article from Mr. Cash’s Opposing Viewpoints database (Links to an external site.) (remember, you may need to type in the password “schools” in order to access this site) showing how the issue your character is dealing with has been handled in the U.S., with a citation (the MLA citation is at the bottom of each article) An excerpt from a poem or song lyric that focuses on the issue your character is dealing with (must be DIFFERENT from the poem I gave you for the Choice Novel Poetry Pairing assignment! Please censor any non-school-appropriate language) A way that someone in our society could help promote justice for the issue your character is dealing with. You’ll receive 10 points for each of the items listed above, as well as 10 points for the overall neatness and creativity of your promotional item. Get homework help here
