Theme of a Film
The goal of this essay is to analyze a film. Once again, we want to look at whatemerges in the artifact: what’s being said and what it’s saying about our larger society. Here, you are welcome todiscuss not just the signs and symbols but also thematic elements (particularly in TV shows or films). Whatthemes emerge in the course of the program/film?In this essay, you will begin the body of the essay with a short summary of the film andprovide a description of the major characters (where relevant), identify the platform and target audience, andprovide any useful information about history/etc.Next, you are to consider the signs and symbols but also (where appropriate) to considercharacters, setting, and/or theme as well. What are the signs andsymbols telling us about the artifact, and what kind of commentary is it making on contemporary culture?Movies offer you characters to work with: what are those characters saying/doing/contributing to what’s happening on the screen? What do they represent? How are they, as well as theiractions/dialogue, a commentary on society? Finally, I would again like you to include a section that looks a little more broadly at the genre this artifact is in.How does this fit in with other artifacts like it? Where does it differ? Are there special elements that needconsideration? For films, particularly those in a series oraggregation (think Marvel), how does this fit in with/relative to the others? Ifit has had some time on the internet (as some of the more well-known ones have), how might its “reading” overtime or reader perception have changed? This paper must have thorough in-text citations and include an MLA-formatted Works Cited page.
